March 1st – 31st, 2013
Vintage Inspired Lifestyle Marketplace is pleased to announce an exhibition of mixed media work from Vermont artist Catherine Hall entitled Recycled/Reborn, March 1st through the 31st. There will be an opening reception on First Friday, March 1st; from 5 to 8pm. Catherine exhibits a selection of plaster, wax and mixed media faces and figures created from discarded dolls and stuffed animals found at local recycling centers.
In an artist’s statement, Catherine Hall explains, “The works in this show derive from cast-off dolls and stuffed animal toys collected from recycling shops. I attempt to give them new lives and a wider range of expressions so that they might resonate with adult viewers as well as with children. They are about remembered emotions, fantasy and fairy tales. The materials are plaster casts, encaustic and mixed media.”
Catherine Hall was born in England and attended Art School and University in Manchester, earning a BA in Art History before immigrating to the USA where she earned graduate degrees in Visual Art and Art History. She works in many mediums including painting, sculpture and installation. She has received fellowships from the Vermont Arts Council, National Endowment for the Humanities, Vermont Studio Center and the Ucross Foundation, and has completed numerous commissions including an award-winning “percent for art” project for the State of Massachusetts, and the banners that hang over five intersections of Church Street in Burlington, VT. Hall’s installations, paintings and sculptures have been exhibited in numerous venues nationally and in England, and her work is in several private and public collections including the Robert Hull Fleming Museum, Reader’s Digest Collection and Ucross Foundation.
