<p><strong>Vintage Inspired is thrilled to announce we&#8217;re once again offering appraisals by renowned local antiques authority, Kyle Scanlon. Please join us Sunday, April 22nd between noon and 4pm and find out what your vintage treasure is worth.</strong> To make the event even more exciting, film crews will be present filming for a new local &#8220;Antique-oriented&#8221; television show. More details below&#8230;</p>
<p>Kyle Scanlon is the co-owner of <a href="http://vermontestateservices.com/" target="_blank">K.C. Scanlon: Estate Sales and Services</a>. He is the third generation of his family to be actively involved in the antique and estate business. His grandparents, Nathan and Margaret Merrill, founded the Vermont Antique dealers Association. From an early age, Kyle worked with his mother in her antique shop and on the show circuit. </p>
<p>After college, Kyle began working as a fine arts appraiser and the gallery manager at Duane Merrill &#038; Company, Auctioneers and Appraisers. During his 10-plus years there the company set several world records at auction, and Kyle&#8217;s appraisal customers included prominent New England institutions like the Shelburne Museum.</p>
<p>In 2005 Kyle was offered the executive editor position at Elk Publishing, where he would oversee the editorial content of three magazines. In 2009 Kyle, and his wife, Amie founded K.C. Scanlon: Estate Sales and Services on a part-time basis. Buisiness quickly grew, and in March of 2011 they made it their full-time occupation. Last year they conducted over 25 tag and estate sales across Vermont.</p></div>

<div style="margin-top:12px; text-indent:12px;">In this engaging and informative lecture, Vintage Inspired Marketplace vendor Tom Jiamachello discusses the extraordinary work of Vermont potter David Gil and his celebrated studio, Bennington Potters.</div>
<div style="text-align:center; margin-top:12px;"><a href="http://vintageinspired.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/david-gil_01.jpg" rel="shadowbox[david-gil]"><img src="http://vintageinspired.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/david-gil_01-150x150.jpg" alt="" title="Bennington Potter, David Gil" width="150" height="150" class="alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-956" style="margin:4px;" /></a><a href="http://vintageinspired.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/david-gil_03.jpg" rel="shadowbox[david-gil]"><img src="http://vintageinspired.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/david-gil_03-150x150.jpg" alt="" title="Bennington Potter, David Gil" width="150" height="150" class="alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-957" style="margin:4px;" /></a><a href="http://vintageinspired.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/david-gil_02.jpg" rel="shadowbox[david-gil]"><img src="http://vintageinspired.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/david-gil_02-150x150.jpg" alt="" title="Bennington Potter, David Gil" width="150" height="150" class="alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-958" style="margin:4px;" /></a>
</div>
<div style="text-indent:12px; margin-top:12px;">Prior to changing the name to Bennington Potters around 1960, David Gil&#8217;s company was known as Cooperative Design. There, he and other Alfred University trained graduates fashioned all sorts of interesting Mid-Century items. Having trained at Alfred University, Gil came to Bennington in 1948. His designs are included in many Mid-Century exhibits and catalogues.</div>
<div style="text-indent:12px; margin-top:12px;">His early designs have not yet been completely documented, so rarities are still out there to be found. There is a large group of people who are interested in David Gil&#8217;s designs. (<a href="http://modish.net/groups/bennington-potters-group-7442" target="_blank">For more information, please click here.</a>)</div>
<div style="text-indent:12px; margin-top:12px;">David Gil was featured in the publication Vermont Life in its Winter 1961 issue. In an eight page spread with one full color image and 13 black and white images, there is a full history of the founding of the pottery along with great visual references of the ware being made at that time. One can see the iconic designs of Yusuke Aida, especially the double trigger mug and coffeepot along with other fascinating items. A great reference!</div>
<div style="text-indent:12px; margin-top:12px;">Bennington Potters is among the few American studio potteries that turned into production potteries in the midcentury. It evolved into a co-operative of different art potters. After 1960, they made their bread and butter by making gorgeous modern styled dinnerware that was distributed throughout the US and sold in fine department stores. In their 1964 catalogue, Gil described their creations as &#8220;Art Objects in the Practical Realm&#8221; &#8211; Museum Honored, Hand-Crafted, Modestly Priced&#8221;</div>
<div style="text-indent:12px; margin-top:12px;">Tom will present many hard-to-find designs he&#8217;s collected in the last ten years. Come see the whimsy and brilliance of the late David Gil (1923? -2002)</div>
<div style="margin-top:12px; text-indent:12px;"><span style="font-weight:bold; color:#3366cc;">Cost:</span> <strong>Free!</strong></div>
<div style="margin-top:12px; text-indent:12px;"><span style="font-weight:bold; color:#3366cc;">When:</span> <strong>Wed Apr 18th 6:30pm</strong></div>

<div style="margin-top: 14px; text-indent: 12px;">Vermont painter Sara Katz’ landscapes are often inspired by a sense of the landscape passing by as the viewer travels, resulting in images of roads, bridges and the streaking scenes on the edges of highways. As she says in her artist statement, “these subjects let me paint in a style that I enjoy the most&#8211;loose and active. I try to achieve a paint quality that suggests a fleeting memory, and use bold colors to turn the desolate or banal into a pleasantly nostalgic moment.” The paintings in this exhibition will feature primarily small works of abstract and industrial landscapes.</div>
<div style="margin-top: 14px; text-indent: 12px;">Sara received a degree in Fine Art from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York. She is currently the Assistant Director at Burlington City Arts. Her work has been exhibited all over the Burlington area, including The BCA Center, The Maltex Building, The Burlington International Airport and more. Sara will be a featured artist at the Edgewater Gallery in Middlebury, Vermont in July of 2012. Sara grew up in Cabot, Vermont on a vegetable farm/greenhouse and nursery. “Growing things is closely connected to the simplest skills in making art: it requires observation, a connection to color and texture, and a willingness to experiment with materials until the desired results are achieved,” says Katz. More information about the artist can be found at <a href="http://www.saraskatz.com/" target="_blank">www.saraskatz.com</a>

<div style="margin-top: 14px; text-indent: 12px;"><span style="font-weight:bold; font-size:120%; color:#3366cc;">Jordan Douglas</span> Vermont photographer Jordan Douglas’ work, entitled <em>(Re)memberings</em>, re-imagines historical archive photos, hand tinted in sepia. In reprinting these portraits, it is hopeful that the subjects who have long ago passed may be awakened and remembered; that the dance that they accepted with the future may take another turn; and that the flickering fragilities of these antique documents may speak to our present day humanity. Jordan Douglas teaches black-and-white darkroom photography at Saint Michaels and Champlain Colleges, as well as Burlington City Arts. Jordan uses both low tech and high optics cameras in creating his images—which encompass a broad spectrum of subject matter and styles. Recent exhibitions have included 2 shows at Burlington’s Gallery 215 College—one that examined found debris with large scale silver gelatin lith prints (December, 2008) and another of triptychs of unintended connections from contiguous strips of negatives (April, 2009). An example of Jordan’s lith photography was published in Tim Rudman’s compendium, The World of Lith Printing (Aurum Press, 2006). Jordan lives in Jericho, Vermont.</div>
<div style="margin-top: 14px; text-indent: 12px;"><span style="font-weight:bold; font-size:120%; color:#3366cc;">Axel Stohlberg</span> Axel Stohlberg’s assemblage art, <em>Little Stories</em> is art made from found objects, “put together into little stories – sometimes with a little humor or politics or just thinking out loud,” says Stohlberg in a recent artist statement. Stohlberg from Middlesex, VT, a graduate of Massachusetts College of Art and Design, works in a variety of media &#8211; paintings, charcoal drawings, sculptures and assemblages. Recent showings of his work as included The South End Art Hop, group exhibitions from BCA’s Art Sales and Leasing program at the Maltex Building on Pine Street in Burlington and at The T.W. Wood Gallery at The Vermont College of Fine Arts in Montpelier.
